Getting Here

The Theatre is located at 1154 Main St., Mt. Desert, ME 04660.

  • From Bar Harbor take Route 233 (Eagle Lake Road) west out of town. (233 is on the junction of Mount Desert Street and Route 3 in Bar Harbor).
  • Drive for apx. 15 minutes until you reach a stop sign. This is the junction of Route 198. Take a right.
  • Apx. 5 minutes later, you will reach a traffic light on the main street of Somesville. This is Route 102. Take a left.
  • You will cross the old Somesville bridge and just over the hill, Acadia Repertory Theatre will be on your left.

The Neighborhood

Located in the rustic Masonic Hall in Somesville, the Acadia Repertory Theatre has been a center for the performing arts since 1973.

Mount Desert Island, situated on the eastern coast of Maine was first recognized and named by European explorers as early as 1604. The first recorded permanent settlement of this island was in 1762 on the Somes Sound fjord, just a couple miles from ART.

Somesville is a very small, extremely quaint New England town. You might have noticed that Maine license plates plainly say Vacationland. This is not an idle boast. Two thirds of Mt. Desert Island is comprised of Acadia National Park. We feel very fortunate to be able to do our work in such an environment.
