Our blockbuster 45th Anniversary Season starts with D. L. Coburns' Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, THE GIN GAME. Acadia Rep stalwarts Cheryl Willis and Michael Kissin star in this hilarious and decidedly UN-sentimental take on friendship, set around the cards table in a long-term care facility. Next up is a new play which is dear to my heart: THE CHRISTIANS, by Lucas Hnath. This play takes a deeply reverent and sincere look at the workings of a megachurch, in which the founding pastor has a very large theological change of heart to deliver to his congrega-tion. This highly theatrical production will feature, among other things, a live choir! Then we produce a play that, surprisingly, has never before appeared on the Acadia Rep's stage, William Inge's classic BUS STOP. This play is so human, so complex and so modern in its sensibilities (and also very funny!) that you may find yourself marveling that Inge got away with writing it in 1955! Finally, we feature the return of the best-selling show in ART's history, Agatha Christie's BLACK COFFEE, the only play she wrote featuring her most famous sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Theatre, like life, is an ephemeral phenomenon. Both require that we seize the time at hand before it passes away, and celebrate life together in the company of friends old and new, onstage and off. We look forward to another delightful summer of theatre with you on Mount Desert Island! - C Andrew Mayer, Producing Director
